Much to my amazement, my monoprint of a male Corroborree Frog guarding its precious eggs made it to the major newspaper here in Canberra last week - "The Canberra Times". It was one of my entries into a local art competition which focuses on the river catchment areas of the region. The two species of tiny little Corroborree Frogs are seriously endangered and one can now be found only in a 10 square kilometre area. They lay their eggs in moss and the male guards them. Loss of habitat, bushfires, drought and global warming have caused a rapid decline in their numbers. I wanted to highlight their plight so I did a series of monoprints and paintings featuring them, of which this is one. It is a hand pulled monoprint only about A4 in size.

Hi all,
Sorry this has been a very neglected blog as of late. The only painting I've been doing is on the house! I have resigned as editor of the PCAC newsletter due to my move to Canberra, which happens next week, but the job has been taken up by talented SA artist Emerson Ward. Emerson is a talented artist who recently published his first art book and is a new member of the PCAC board. His first newsletter , Edition 37 for April 2013 can be viewed on the Newsletter Archives. I am very grateful to Emerson for stepping in and volunteering to be the editor. I enjoyed being editor and am sorry to be leaving. Hopefully I will find a new art society to join when I get to Canberra. If you are in South Australia, check out the National Railway Museum Art Show if you get the chance. - they have received entries (including a small one from me) from all around Australia - a must if you love art and trains. I will be unplugging the faithful old Mac this Sunday and be offline for at least a week, so may not be able to reply to emails etc. Keep enjoying your art and cheers from Adelaide (for the last time). Just spent the morning helping to hand the Port Community
Arts Centre's SALA Festival (South Australian Living Artists) Exhibition entitled SALA'd Days and it is looking great. Our Chairman and Secretary are still at it adding the finishing touches and the independent guest judges will arrive tomorrow to decide on the winners. I've got two lino prints entered instead of the usual watercolours and I'm hoping they will attract some intereset. The opening is this Saturday, 18th August and Peter Jamieson, Councillor for the Outer Harbour Ward of Port Adelaide Enfield Council will be opening it at 2.00pm. There are well over 100 entries that I know of including paintings, 3D works and some installations. Looks like it is going to be a great success, so hopefully the horrid chilly weather won't keep visitors away. For those who missed my earlier post, the location is: The Black Diamond Gallery, 66 Commercial Road, Port Adelaide. South Australia. It is situated right next to the Tourist Information Centre and the exhibition closes on September 2nd. Gallery hours each day are 11.00 to 4.00. Look forward to seeing you there and if you are looking for something to hang on your wall, dare I mention that there's a couple of nice prints for sale, hem hem. Cheers. Hi all,
I have wanted to set up another website for a long time, especially one where I could showcase the artwork of some of my family and friends, especially those like my brother Chris, who are are not even connected to the internet yet, which is one reason I decided to do Web Communications 101. At last, after a solid week of sitting at this computer getting bum rot, eye strain, stiff necks and going nuts and eating way through too much corn chips and Nutella (as we were out of chocolate - there goes the diet again!), I have finally completed setting up this blog and the Heatherian Glimpses website. I hope some more of the amateur artists I know who do not have their own sites will choose to place their work onto "Heatherian's Glimpses." As soon as I receive images and a profile from them Rosemary and Natsky will be fully up and running, and possibly Dianna as well. I have also linked the website and the blog, in whatever fashion my limited knowledge would allow, to Delicious, Twitter, Flickr, and Pictify, not to mention every other one of my existing sites that I could think of, most of which are listed in this blog's sidebar. I've even figured out how to put in here and there, the odd button and widget or two (yes, I now know what a widget is - yaaayyyy!) My only regret is that the website formatting only supported one facebook "Like" formitting option, which no matter what I tried refused to work correctly even though I religiously followed every step in the website and facebook help menus. In the end after wasting way, way to much time on it, I had a total hissy fit over the whole thing and "unliked" the lot by deleting the malfunctioning "Like" buttons from every page (mutter, mutter, snarl, snarl). I cannot believe how long it has taken me to do it all - way longer than it probably took some young person who still has a mostly complete set of fully functioning brain cells. This blog and website and the above mentioned 4 connecting sites, were created as a necessary part of my Web Communications 101 unit at uni, and as Facebook was not one of my chosen nodes, I will leave that little battle until another day. I have learnt a heck of a lot in a short time and although I have placed links to my old existing sites, I still have to go to the older sites and link them back to the newer ones - but that a task for a later date when I have chocolate on hand. Whilst creating this site the house has deteriorated into something resembling a rubbish tip on a bad day and it is not over yet. I still have 2 weeks of work to catch up on and have been frantically attempting to create pages for my Printmaking unit as well. The ol' blood pressure is through the roof as a result, the cats are neglected and numerous drying art prints litter the lounge. Anyway, I hope you like the site and will share it with all your friends. Cheers for now. |
